We'll break down their performances below:
*Note: The D Zone covers Michigan high school teams, we were not evaluating East St. Louis, IL prospects.
Detroit King:
2019 QB Dequan Finn for the 2nd consecutive year, Finn went crazy at the Prep Kickoff Classic vs. out of state opponents who were favored nationally to beat King. Finn who is committed to Central Michigan, who was 9/22 for 164 yards and 3 touchdowns plus he had 16 carries for 277 yards and 3 touchdowns. Finn made some great throws during the game and really put touch on the ball when he needed.
2020 WR/DB Lemuel Watley stole the show in our opinion, as he had a nice forced fumble to stop a East St. Louis scoring drive and had 2 interceptions on back-to-back possessions, one being in the end zone. Watley, a speedster is a weapon that King can move all over the field.
2019 S Marvin Grant put fear in just about everyone on the East St. Louis team as the Safety prospect who is committed to Purdue was flying around and delivered some devastating tackles.
2019 WR/OLB Jalen McGaughy who is committed to Northern Illinois played all LB on this day and showed why he's getting heavy looks at the position. McGaughy is still getting a ton of looks at receiver too, making him one of the most intriguing prospects in the state.
2019 WR Dominick Hannah lit up the scoreboard on Saturday for King with 2 receiving touchdowns and 1 kickoff return. The speedster was clearly all gas and no brakes.
2019 MLB Rich Miller who is committed to Buffalo was as expected all over the field and had some huge hits that fueled King's defense. Good in pass coverage too.
2019 RB Shondel Hardnett had some tough runs for the Crusaders to balance out the King offense and obviously played a key role in being a threat which made East St. Louis' defense honest - in the process allowing Finn to have a field day since they needed to account for Hardnett on read-options.
2019 CB/WR RayShawn Williams who is committed to Youngstown State showed his knack for making plays with nice plays all over the field and Williams is another speedster.
2020 OT Deondre Buford performed exceptionally well with protecting the left side and had several nice pulls. Buford has blown up this off-season due to his size and athleticism, it wasn't hard to miss on Saturday.
2019 OT Deshawn Ingram who is committed to Howard controlled the interior part of the line of scrimmage all night for the King. On Finn's 2nd TD which really broke open the game, Ingram had the sealing block and several more that resulted in big King plays through the day.
