Recap
The elements played a huge role on this game as both teams, as well as an impressive number of fans battled gale force winds & driving rain all night long. In the end, the Traverse City West Titans out-muscled the Petoskey Northmen and finished off an undefeated Big North Conference season with a hard fought 21-6 victory at Northmen Stadium in Petoskey. Kyle Withers scores twice for the Titans and fellow senior Oden Soffredine also scored for West. For the Northmen, Senior Parker Arms scores Petoskey’s line score in the 2nd quarter but the PAT kick sailed wide right giving the Titans a 7-6 lead at the half. The Northmen defense forced a punt after 3 Titan plays to open the 2nd half but Petoskey fumbled it right back, giving West excellent field position which they capitalized on midway through the 3rd quarter. After a poor punt by Petoskey, West only had to go 24-yards for their next score making it 21-6 after 3 quarters. Early in the 4th quarter Petoskey free safety recovered his 2nd fumble of the night at the Titan 14 yard line. The West defense stiffened however limiting Petoskey to just 4 yards on 3 plays. The 7-2 Titans will likely be a number 1 seed in D1 while Petoskey hopes to make the D3 playoffs at 5-4.
